Ekurhuleni Housing Company (EHC) is a municipal entity set up in 2000. It was started to undertake the development and management of rental housing stock for low and moderate-income households in the City of Ekurhuleni. EHC is a social housing institute for the low-income earners established in terms of the Social Housing Act, Municipal System Act and the Companies Act MFMA. EHC is 100% owned by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).
EHC performs two principal functions. Firstly, it act as a developer; by appointing contractors and professionals to build (in some cases refurbish) suitable housing.
Secondly, EHC manage its own rental housing stock. The rental housing portfolio includes newly built stock and existing public rental stock that will be transferred from the EMM. EHC intends to offer various unit typologies for rental ranging from communal housing and social and market rental units.
